Data Exchange

Healthcare providers, payers and claims processors alike are experiencing tremendous challenges in today’s economy. Organizations are under pressure to deliver better service, comply with stringent government and industry regulations such as the ANSI 834 Benefit Enrollment and Maintenance transaction file format.

empowHR’s Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the company’s data management solution, which ensures the secure data transfers between empowHR and employers, insurance carriers, and payroll service providers. empowHR defines and customizes the required file formats and maps the data to standard formats when possible. empowHR EDI supports ANSI 834, CSV, XLS, XML, and other formats as needed.

empowHR’s EDI Solution team works closely with each client and/or insurance carrier to thoroughly test the process before placing the application into production and determine a secure method for the data transfer. The most common method is secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Additionally, Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) encryption can be used to provide a deeper level of security. Once EDI frequencies are defined, they are put into the automated scheduler and are typically transferred by empowHR EDI on a weekly basis.

Once the file is in production, the EDI team continually monitors the EDI operation. The monitoring process includes confirming that a successful transfer occurred as well as checking for any transmission errors. In the event that a transfer was unsuccessful or, in the case of errors (like format changes or data corruption), the empowHR EDI team works with the appropriate resources to determine the root cause, correct the issue and resubmit the data until a successful transmission is confirmed.
